Got this passed along to me today, thought it was hilarious and oh-so-true:
Donovan's Political Ramblings
My personal place to ramble on about current events, freedom, liberty, and the encroachment of the government into our lives.

Would I Vote for Romney?
Originally posted here
I have been asked on more than one occasion if I would vote for Romney to keep Obama out of office for a second term. Here is my answer: 1. I don't vote unless the candidate is named Ron Paul. 2. Voting for Romney is like voting for Hitler to keep out Stalin or voting for Stalin to keep out Hitler (N.B. I am not comparing Obama or Romney to Hitler or Stalin; they haven't gotten as many people killed—yet). 3. Romney is, as Lew Rockwell recently wrote, "a corporate statist, a follower of the neocons, a war monger, a welfarist, an advocate of torture, concentration camps, the surveillance state, and the all-powerful presidency." This means he is just like Gingrich, Santorum, McCain, and Bush. If I were going to vote Republican to keep out Obama, then it would make no difference which Republican jerk was the candidate. 4. I have a greater chance of getting struck by lighting than my vote for Romney against Obama amounting to anything. 5. The lesser of two evils is still evil (and that is assuming that Romney is the lesser of two evils, which is debatable).

Surgery Pricing
Check this out. There's surgery center in Oklahoma which actually publishes their prices on their website
(http://www.surgerycenterok.com/pricing.php). You have to pay before hand, but afterwards you can file with your insurance to be reimbursed. Isn't that awesome?
Isn't it crazy that I need to say "isn't that awesome?" Shouldn't this be how the medical system works? You need a service, you get a price, you accept it or find a better price / experience somewhere else, you pay for the service, you get the service... done.
Ever since we have stopped paying directly for our medical care we have stopped caring how much any particular procedure costs. We just pay our premium and hope that everything is mostly covered. Medical providers can "charge" hundreds of times more than the cost of a procedure and our insurance companies negotiate into paying closer to the real cost. That makes it nearly impossible for people without insurance to self "insure" themselves. We, the consumers, are completely isolated from the cost/benefit and have no incentive to shop around. With that, prices will naturally rise until everyone is unhappy.

Jury Nullification
I love telling people about jury nullification. For those who are not aware, jury nullification is the centuries old concept that a jury has two responsibilities. One, to judge whether or not a defendant in the trial for which they are jurors is guilty or not of the crime he is charged. Second, to judge whether or not the law being applied is just or not. If the law is unjust, then the jury is within their rights to find the defendant innocent on those grounds.
For example, lets say that some locality passes a law that says it's illegal to skip on the sidewalk because you might trip and fall into the street and be killed by a passing car. John Doe is found skipping on a sidewalk and is arrested and charged with breaking this law. The jury is within their rights to find John innocent because the law is flat out stupid. Their decision in effect nullifies the law as they have set a precedent for all future juries.
While my example may be absurd, any unjust or idiotic law is absurd. A jury provides a way for the people to hold their representatives in check.
Thankfully, a US District Court Judge recently found that 80 year old Julian Heicklin was within his right to inform people of the concept of jury nullification..Gasp! Free to speak the truth! Gasp! Is that still legal in these United States?

GOP Desperation = Fake Ballots In Nevada and Maine
Man! Talk about desperate! Ron Paul is playing by the rules and is winning more and more delegates from more and more states. How does the opposition (GOP establishment and/or Romney supports) counter the momentum?

The Government Doesn't Like You Thinking for Yourself
Apparently, Obama's "Information Czar" Cass Sunstein published a paper in 2008 which if the ideas it contains were implemented would have the government attempt to stop, penalize, or thwart people from questioning the government's side of any story. The media doesn't report on the fact that there are many groups who question the government's official narrative on 9/11 as well as other topics. Here is one for example which has quite a few professionals who have verified the group's assertions
So imagine an America where questioning the government is met with:
He was recently confronted by a reporter on this topic. As you'll see in the video below, he claims that he doesn't remember writing it, hopes that he didn't say "those things", but then refuses to recant it (which implies he fully remembers it).
I do think that some conspiracy theories (such as faking the moon landing) and such are really out there and have little or no credibility (I believe the remains of the landing spots are observable from home telescopes). But the government cannot be allowed to stop people from questioning it. Once it has that power, what remains of our republic will completely cease to exist.
So imagine an America where questioning the government is met with:
“...a series of possible responses. (1) Government might ban conspiracy theorizing. (2) Government might impose some kind of tax, financial or otherwise, on those who disseminate such theories.”That alone is scary. Then there's this possibility where government agents:
"...might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action."So, not only would he ban free speech, but he would actively attempt to undermine free thinkers who don't trust the massive federal juggernaut which has been shown to have repeatedly lied to the public (here, here, here are a few examples of outright lies or manipulation to create a situation in order to ).

The Unknown Soldiers
Today is the day that Osama bin Laden was supposedly killed. While that is up for debate for some, it pales in comparison to the deaths of our soldiers and the innocents in our current war fronts. The month of April was the most costly in terms of casualties in Afghanistan for 2012 (33 US soldiers, 7 other coalition) and the most costly in seven months. So much for us winding down our involvement.
The Unknown Soldiers: More Than One Day
Afghanistan Casualites
Let us not forget the men and women who are serving their country. Let's bring them home.
